Program prepares students for in-demand jobs

According to a 2021 report by the Project Management Institute (PMI), “Talent Gap: Ten-Year Employment Trends, Costs and Global Implications,” the global economy needs 25 million new project professionals by 2030. The report explains that the gap between the demand for project management skills and the availability of talent is caused by an increase in the number of jobs requiring project management-oriented skills, higher demand for project professionals in emerging and developing countries due to economic growth, and the rate of retirement from the workforce.

In response to this demand, the University of Delaware Division of Professional and Continuing Studies (UD PCS) is offering two live-online sections of its 10-week Project Management Certificate program beginning Sept. 13 and Oct. 5. Delivering global project management best practices, the course is appropriate for participants from any industry and does not have any academic prerequisites.

The program provides current foundational knowledge and offers an opportunity to earn the professional development units (PDUs) required by the PMI to maintain certifications or earn the contact hours needed to apply for a certification exam. It is not specifically intended for exam preparation.

Each week, participants will receive a set of tools, tips and techniques designed to be immediately used in their professional or personal lives. Working in teams, students will determine a project that will add value to an organization. After following the steps of the project management life cycle, they will present their results to their classmates in the final session.

Discounts and scholarships for the University of Delaware’s Project Management Certificate program are available. To register, or for more information, visit pcs.udel.edu/project, email continuing-ed@udel.edu or call 302-831-7600.
